The time is almost upon us again to celebrate life and music in one of San Diego’s most cherished cultural centers.
The West Coast Weekender, San Diego’s only electronic music conference and event of its kind, is returning to the World Beat Center at Balboa Park this year with another stunning display of world-class musical talent. Offering a variety of artists representing a wide range of musical genres, the West Coast Weekender has a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy.
For drum & bass heads, things are a little different this year, but no less exciting than they were last year. This year at the Weekender, drum & bass will be featured on the Saturday of the event and will be offering a lineup of veteran artists who have helped shape the genre into what is today.
First and foremost, the West Coast Weekender proudly sees the return of the legendary LTJ Bukem to San Diego’s city streets. Bukem has been involved in jungle and drum & bass since the genres formative days in the early 90s, and many will agree that his sets are just as progressive and forward-thinking today as they were when the genre was still in its infancy. Each time Bukem has touched down in San Diego, it has been a night to remember, and now fans get the chance to see him play live in one of San Diego’s most iconic and historical locations
Next on the roster are dancefloor legends Matrix & Futurebound. Again, these are drum & bass artists who have been involved in the genre for decades now, and their contributions over the years have had a lasting impact on the trajectory and evolution of the sound of drum & bass. Representing Viper Recordings, Matrix & Futurebound will be bringing with them some of the most cutting edge dancefloor drum & bass sounds the world has to offer. For any serious drum & bass enthusiast, this will be the perfect opportunity to hear fresh and forthcoming releases that may just be around the corner, as well as an opportunity to hear which classics are still influencing the big names in the industry to this day.
Making his San Diego debut this year is the Russian powerhouse ENEI. For many of us local drum & bass heads, this is a big name to finally see on a lineup in our city. From his early, more liquid-influence releases in 2010 to his more recent jaw-dropping neurofunk blasters on Critical Recordings, ENEI is sure to bring a range of impressive styles to the stage at this year’s weekender.
Also gracing the drum & bass stage this year are West Coast legends Jamal and Method One, residents of San Francisco’s formidable Stamina crew. With both artists featuring releases across labels such as Hospital, Samurai, Code, 31, and Commercial Suicide, Weekenders can expect nothing but the best in top shelf drum and bass from our ambassadors of the north.
All of these outstanding artists will be performing on Saturday, May 6th at this year’s weekender, so be sure to secure your spot on the dancefloor before ticket prices go up or sell out!
